Category: God Asks – Social Justice – Micah 6:8

While new in my faith, I would pray frequently, “Lord, give me Your eyes. Give me Your Heart. Make me like You.” I believed that prayer. I felt that prayer. I thought in that prayer, I would be healed, restored, renewed—and I was. You can read about that miraculous journey in our TRANSFORMED section.

How He changed me and what He showed me created a revolutionary change in my identity and how I see the world, and my place in that world. At the time, I had no idea the Power of that prayer, and through it, the work He wanted me to do and the sacrifice that would be asked.

I went from a fiscally minded conservative that never fully believed in the social agenda of the right to someone routinely called a liberal snowflake. Now, I even see money and financial resources differently. What’s worse, the friends I had from church, the ones I turned to when my life fell apart in 2012, now turned on me. While many clamored for a wall, I screamed out for babies torn from their mothers. I couldn’t make it through the news without crying. My heartache was so deep because of the unfairness, the injustice, and the root of it was normally fear or greed—two things Jesus warned us about.

I don’t know the solution, but the Truth is found in God’s Word. His request of us is simple, “To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 If you take a moment and read the first 7 verses of Micah 6 and replace the USA with the Israelites, you begin to see a real message God is speaking to us.

This page says, “God Asks”, but in truth, when you read the part of Micah 6:8 not as frequently quoted, we then find, O mortal, that God had shown us what is good, and He REQUIRES this of us. In Matthew 10, when Jesus sent the disciples on their first commission, He warned that even family may turn on you. (10:21). The entire chapter gives us great instruction on how God wants us to share the message. In John 15:18, part of my life chapter, Jesus speaks of how the world will treat us when we truly walk with Him.

He’s taught me to be bold and I pray to be fearless. It’s hard. There’s much unrest and vicious attacks, but I know He is with me, and I cannot live any other way. I prayed for this and my prayers were answered.
