Mom NYC

This morning at breakfast, I saw a woman with a Billie Holiday t-shirt. For those unaware, I had a unique experience around her song I’LL BE SEEING YOU and my mother.

The lyrics say, “in all the familiar places.” The parts of NYC my mother ever really mentioned was RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL. and the Rockettes. As soon as I saw it, it was one of those ‘familiar places.’

My cousin, Lisa, tells me her family would go to Rockefeller Center at Christmas and light a candle in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. We did that today too. I’m unsure if that was a familiar place to my mom, but I’m thinking maybe it was, sometimes. Miss you, momma.
