Just Do You Psalm 139:16

Praying Over The City in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Yesterday, on Thanksgiving Day, I was trying to do a bit of coloring. I’ve heard this can be a relaxing activity, but as I first started in, I immediately got overwhelmed. I thought I’d picked an easy one, yet as I shaded each little area, I thought, “This is going to take forever!” All I wanted was the result. Honestly, sometimes I don’t know what is wrong with me. Instead of enjoying the process, I am hurried along just to see where this ends up, forgetting that the journey is the reward.

As I continued, attempting to just be and put my hurried pace behind me, I considering the colors and space in my piece, trying to ensure both diversity and commonality with my palette of 12. This challenge got me thinking of the enormous job God has with creation. All the diversity. All the different species. All the beauty—the astonishing beauty, and how it all works together. The foresight it must take. The work, the effort, the vision to make this all come together, and it comes together in the most wondrous majesty.

Just in considering this one silly little picture, I thought of all the various butterflies and flowers that exist. Each category and species, then each one has its own markings. Granted, God has a grander palette than just 12 colors, but still—billions of variables coming into a plan for each butterfly or flower existing in its own time.

Those are just two items God created. The same forethought exists for every living creation—every single one over the span of millions of years (or more). Who really knows how long God’s been at this. There could be life anywhere—everywhere—created with the same foresight and vision.

Psalm 139:16 (NLT) You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

This means that God not only planned all of this, He envisioned it before you were even here. He planned you, as unique as you are, to be right here, right now, to do a special and unique work only you can do. Every single moment planned. Everything about you masterfully considered. This gives a whole lot more power to the saying, “YOU BE YOU!” That is some powerful stuff and gives us much to be grateful for.

Our Masterful Creator, it is so hard to comprehend the foresight necessary to do all that you have done. May we be grateful for our space, our time, and our talents. You planned everything about us for a purpose. Please help us to embrace all the uniqueness you bestowed upon us and powerfully just be us. In Your Holy and Mighty name…

If you have any prayer requests, bring them forward. Another friend just lost her son—yes, “another”. Please join me in prayers for comfort for those grieving a lost loved one, especially any parents missing a child. May you have a day blessed with peace, courage, and generosity.
