Take a Breath Colossians 3:23-24

I love loons. Yesterday, I captured this one looking for some lunch. As his (or her ;)) head popped up, looked around, then dove below again, it reminded me of how we, many times, balance between our Spiritual state and our worldly state.

There is no doubt about it, this loon has to dive beneath the water to get food. This loon, just like us, must take care of his (or her ;)) earthly needs. We must get things done, provide for our families, work hard, and live in the world. We have no other choice and God honors our hard work here. In Colossians 3:23-24, it says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

We have to stay in earthly things until our time here is over but think of the relief this loon feels when it comes up for a breath. When he (she ;)) pulls their head above the water and breathes in the sustenance it needs MORE than food, the breath of life. It is so much like us, reaching out to God, and breathing in His Spiritual goodness. We need it. We cannot live a worthy life without it.

What I wish for this loon, and pray for us too, is a scuba tank so that the breath of life is with us always. That we can take it with us, anywhere and everywhere, as our Spiritual connection as we walk the earth taking in the breath of life wherever we may go.

As I consider this Spiritual scuba gear, there are so many verses that come to mind. John 15 where Jesus talks about abide. Romans 8 when Paul talks about Spiritual transformation, and then even Ephesians 6:10-18 which talks about the Armor of God, our Spiritual scuba gear allowing us to take God everywhere and anywhere.

Dearest Heavenly Father, we need your Spiritual breath. Walk with us everywhere we might go so we can be renewed and revived. Jesus frequently left the crowds, His work, to pray and to meditate—to refill His Spiritual scuba gear. As we journey through this life, please remind us that we need to ever be connected to you. Without Spiritual breath, we cannot do the heavy lifting that you have called us to do. In Your Mighty and Holy Name…
